Do you want to help raise funds for the Pre-Schools?

We are meeting on:

Wednesday 24th January

at Hall and Woodhouse

at 7.30pm.

Come along and help us plan the Spring Disco, Mother’s Day Raffle and The Annual Fair!  Everyone welcome – we will be in the lounge area upstairs.

The committee are the trustees of the charity that comprises of both Brampton and Hilltop Pre-Schools, without a full and working committee the Pre-Schools would not be able to open.  The only time to join the committee is during the Annual General Meeting which takes place on Tuesday 7th November at 8pm at Brampton.

The committee is made up a mixture of parents, ex-parents and members of the community.  It must have of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 12, and of this a minimum 60% must be current parents. There are 3 named roles that must be filled: Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.  And these positions are supported by other members who often take on fundraising roles, and in some years a Vice-Chair. This year the committee has 3 members from the previous year (Secretary – Lucy Murdock and Fundraisers – Jenny Niblett and Ross Calderwood) who are able to stay on, but none are currently parents.
Therefore, we need several parents to join the committee to achieve the required 60% parents and to fill the other named roles.
As the committee we are responsible for the charity and our aim is “to ensure accessibility to children and families from all sections of the local and wider community”.  The committee works closely with the team of staff and with them we agree policies, fund staff training, recruitment, purchasing of resources and fundraising.  The committee is also the point of contact with Ofsted, and we are responsible for budgeting, payment and pay scales of staff, legal requirements, maintaining the website and Facebook page etc.
We meet once a term, with the staff and if necessary we meet as a committee between those meetings.

We are also looking for prizes for the Silent Auction.  Last year we had a variety of prizes and vouchers – a coffee machine, a Butchers Block voucher, Nando’s Voucher, soft play sessions, fitness boxing sessions…  These helped us raise about £200.  If you think you could offer something then please let us know by emailing –

The renovation at Brampton is almost finished and we are all really pleased by how wonderful the building is now looking inside. The main room is brighter and more open, there is more space in the children’s toilets and the office is now big enough to actually work in!

We would like to focus our attention to the outdoor spaces at both of our settings and on Sunday 8th October, between 10 and 11.30, the Committee would like to invite you to join them at Brampton to enhance the outside space there.

This is also an excellent chance to find out more about the committee: who we are, why we fundraise, what we do and how you can support us either as a new committee member or as a parent.

There will be face painting for children, hot drinks and bacon rolls for sale and with your help we can enhance the outside space at Brampton with planting and bulbs.

The committee are also keen to see the outdoor space at Hilltop enhanced, so we will also be taking a selection of pots and plants up to Hilltop and spending time improving the outdoor space with the children and staff later on in the week. If you would like to help us when we visit Hilltop please let a member of staff know.

We are looking for sponsors for our upcoming fundraising events. Sponsorship allows us to source prizes for games and supplies for craft activities, as well as pay for the stand at some events.

Upcoming events include: Portishead Carnival, St. Peter’s School Summer Fair, Our Annual Summer Fair and The Raft Race.

Companies that sponsor our stand would have a poster with their name and logo displayed on our stall and would be given credit on both our Facebook page and website.

Sponsorship can be for as much or as little as a company can provide. As a guide £35 would help us buy 50 books or over 100 lucky dip prizes.

Raft Race 2017

Raft Race 2017

We are entering the raft race this year! We will be looking for help from parents to build the raft and then the children will be designing a flag for the boat. There will be an initial meeting on Thursday 11th May 2017 at Hall and Woodhouse at 7.30pm where we can make a master plan to build the winning boat!

We are especially keen to hear from anyone who will be able to supply any items for the raft, such as unused Barrels and anything else buoyant!
